O.M.G. Love

All Hail McQueen

Smell Like A Unicorn
Yves Klein Blue
Tommy Hilfiger Spring 2011 Double Buckle Belt

Today I feel like, avoiding work.
This could be for a variety of reasons.
Such as, I know I'm getting Friday off.
Or, I worked last Sunday so I'm tired.
But really, I think it's because my graphics class is covering
the x & y axis in InDesign.
Which if you ask me sounds an awful lot like MATH.
Have I mentioned I loathe math?
So in postponing the agony of learning this chapter
I have stumbled upon some new loves
and everyone knows that sweet power of new love. . .
it is perhaps the only thing that can conquer the horrible algebra flashbacks I'm having.

How to Furnish a Room with No Furniture

In my heart
lies a secret compartment
filled with a deep love for all things kitsch.
Quirky.
Clever.
Witty.

Are you familiar with Rene Magritte's famous work
The Treachery of Images
Where he portrays a pipe
only to write below
This is not a pipe
Because technically,
it's not a pipe.
It's an image of a pipe.
Ah so clever.
The idea is to challenge the viewer's perception of reality.

I love things like this that play with your mind.
Like the home decor decals below.
Frames Decal AREAWARE
Vinyl + Hanger AREAWARE

Olivia Headboard Wall Decal Urban Outfitters
Wrought Iron Headboard Decal Urban Outfitters
You could furnish a whole bedroom without any furniture!

The Vodka Drinker

They call her, the vodka drinker.
Which is funny because that's my nickname!

First Thursday

In Santa Barbara we have something known as 1st Thursdays.  It occurs, as you guessed, the first Thursday of the month.  Art galleries stay open late and serve wine and appetizers.  Also special performances occur and there is often live music. Various galleries participate, so the idea is to make a night of it and trek around to the different venues downtown.

I am not a trekkie in that sense of the word, (in the sci-fi dork sense of it, yes I am!) so I have yet to participate in this fun little event. But it has me thinking. I would really love to participate in more cultural & social events. So why not? We'll see if I can drag my lazy carcass out for a night on the town tonight! (& by my lazy carcass I mean the bf) lol.

Thinking of art, I thought I'd share just a couple of my favorites. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an art connoisseur & I don't have a favorite period, or artist etc. As with music it's normally the individual painting or piece that speaks to me.

I encourage you to research & attend events in your area! You all are constantly inspiring me to step out & do something with myself so I would like to pass that sentiment on :)

and if I only lived in London, this sounds amazing, Grace Kelly = Tres Chic!

Grace Kelly: Style Icon

Sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels

The spectacular wardrobe of Grace Kelly will be on display at the V&A. Tracing the evolution of her style from her days as one of Hollywoods most popular actresses in the 1950s and as Princess Grace of Monaco, the display will present over 50 of Grace Kelly's outfits together with hats, jewellery and the original Hermès Kelly bag. Dresses from her films, including High Society, will be shown as well as the gown she wore to accept her Oscar award in 1955. These will be accompanied by film clips and posters, photographs and her Oscar statuette. The display will also include the lace ensemble worn by Grace Kelly for her civil marriage ceremony to Prince Rainier in 1956 and 35 haute couture gowns from the 1960s and 70s by her favourite couturiers Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Yves St Laurent.

Someone over there in Europe, please please go to this and take pictures for me! lol

O.M.G. Love, Art.

In my imagination I am a lot of things. Some of these are true to reality and some are well, imaginary. For example, I often find myself shocked when I hear that I'm short.  I mean of course I face this obstacle daily.  Like when I can't find something and it's because my boyfriend placed it in a cabinet above my head that I can't see into. But in my head that doesn't happen. In my head I swear I'm a towering Amazonian. I'm the Chihuahua who barks at the Great Dane. Sometimes it's just embarrassing.

In my imagination I'm also an art connoisseur.  There I attend many swanky art shows, schmooze with the in crowd, and inhabit a great metropolitan apartment where I entertain nightly. In reality I go online trying to find something that isn't cheesy in my price range. Don't feel bad for me though, I do alright.  And when I don't I drown my sorrows in a nice vodka tonic. Life is good.

Lately I've been making some really great discoveries. Below is one of them. Fashion illustrator Sandra Suy combines two of my passions, art & design.  Her illustrations make me want to wear the clothes & hang them on the wall.

Her art makes me wish I could be any one of these women. Playing dress up, imagining myself taller.
While I have seen Sandra Suy on quite a few sites, my introduction is courtesy of A Life More Fabulous
