Now any of you who know me
Like, the flesh & blood me
because believe me many readers probably know more strangely intimate details of my life
than some people who have met me in person.
Anyways you skin & bones acquaintances
can say a few things about me
that can really only be grasped
from first hand encounters. lol

1.  I am no high fashion diva.(More  a combination of discount, vintage, grandma's closet & current trends I would say)
2. I am a bit of a pear shape. Just slightly, I swear.
3. I am short, or to put it more nicely, petite, 5'1

I am rambling on about this to describe why I so love the
While these would normally be outside of my radar because of their price.
I <3 the tailored, menswear inspired pieces.
I'm the gal whose hoping the blazer trend sticks around forever
because the structured shoulders balance my bovine-ly built hips
A la Kim K.
Tailored pieces work really well on us smaller proportioned people.
Did I mention the materials are lightweight, meant for this transitional period between summer & fall?
Well they are, which is perfect for Santa Barbara
where the summer-fall transition sticks around
all year long.

Because I am a Book Nerd: Out of Print Book Tees for a Good Cause

I know I have been slow-moving with the darn summer reading list.
Summer is almost over!
But I haven't forgotten, and John Irving's A Prayer for Owen Meany
is sitting at my house just waiting to be ravished.
Anyway despite my procrastination
I am a self-proclaimed book nerd.
and when I saw these sweet shirts from Out of Print
which feature, you guessed it,
out of print book covers on tees
my little black heart skipped a few beats.
Add to that the fact that for every shirt you buy
a book gets donated to an African charity
and woo-wee I need to get me one of these babies.
P.s. for the fashion focused, these tees in  my opinion are always flattering
and feed into the whole "I'm really not trying which is exactly why I am so cool and look so good" style. lol
Did I mention they have a blog?
Yeah, like I said, they are bad-ass.

The Birth of a Blueberry Turnover; How to Rid Your Fridge of Blueberries for Good

Ah sweet friends
Did I tell you I went blueberry picking
a few weekends ago?
Yes yes, I shared the experience
and I suggested you all head out
on your own fruit finding quest.
Alas a caveat must be added.
Please, dearies, plan out beforehand
how you will use your loot.
Because I didn't
and I've been wracking my brain
and wrecking my cupboards
trying to use up all these sweet little berries.
So I share another recipe
a simple one
because after weeks of making blueberry goods
simple is all I got left
I promise, this is it.

 Blueberry Turnovers (thanks Allrecipes)

Ingredients

  • 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent rolls
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup prepared vanilla frosting (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Roll out crescent dough triangles onto a baking sheet.
  2. Place 1 tablespoon blueberries on the widest end of each triangle. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon confectioners' sugar over blueberries on each roll. Beginning with the wide end, roll up each crescent around blueberries; pinch both sides to seal completely.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until golden, about 12 minutes. Remove to cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes; dust with the remaining confectioners' sugar. Drizzle with the vanilla frosting.
  4. Instead of Vanilla Frosting I filled half of them with a one part cream cheese (8 ounces) + one part whipped marshmallow

Monday = Funday with Unusual Architecture

I know plenty of you are thinking.
Rachel, you dirty liar
Monday is not a fun day.
Monday means I go back to work.
Monday means I give up binge drinking for 4 days.
Monday means I can't sit around in my underwear in front of the fan in this 100 degree weather.
Well all of this is true (at least for me--well minus the 100 degrees, were at 80 here) lol
but alas despite it being the dreaded Monday.
There are still some sweet things to be found in this life.
Like the things below. A girl can dream can't she. . .
I've always wanted to live in a giant teapot.

I heart Ewok House
